Our Fiduciary Commitment

When evaluating financial advisors, you’ll likely encounter the term fiduciary. It's often used as a differentiator, but many investors may not fully know what it actually means and why it matters.

At its core, a fiduciary financial advisor is required to put a client's interests first. That obligation helps create transparency, accountability, and alignment between the advisor and client.

At Focus, we believe that's where every advisory relationship should begin. Our fiduciary commitment is a guiding principle that influences how we deliver advice, build relationships, and help clients navigate important financial decisions.

What Is a Fiduciary Financial Advisor?

A fiduciary financial advisor is legally obligated to act in the best interest of the client. Unlike other standards that simply focus on whether a recommendation is appropriate, the fiduciary standard requires advice to be centered on the client's needs, goals, and circumstances.

For registered investment advisors (RIAs), fiduciary responsibility means:

  • Acting in the client's best interest
  • Providing objective, personalized advice
  • Disclosing material conflicts of interest
  • Exercising care, diligence, and professional judgment
  • Maintaining a duty of loyalty throughout the advisory relationship

The fiduciary standard is not simply a marketing claim or voluntary commitment. Although the concept is rooted in common law, it is upheld by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The SEC states that an investment adviser's fiduciary duty consists of both a duty of care and a duty of loyalty. Together, these obligations are intended to help clients receive advice that is objective, transparent, and aligned with their best interests.

Why Fiduciary Advice Matters

As wealth grows, financial decisions become increasingly interconnected, nuanced, and deeply personal. Investment strategies influence taxes. Estate plans shape family legacies. Business and personal goals often overlap. Navigating that complexity requires more than investment advice. It requires guidance that is aligned with your broader objectives, not the interests of a product provider, institution, or advisor.

The fiduciary standard establishes a commitment to place clients' interests first. It promotes a disciplined approach to evaluating opportunities, managing conflicts, and making recommendations with care and diligence. The result is advice designed to support your goals and reflect the full picture of your financial life.

Just as importantly, the fiduciary standard fosters transparency, accountability, and trust. It gives clients confidence that recommendations are being made thoughtfully, objectively, and with a focus on helping them achieve the outcomes that matter most to them.

What Our Fiduciary Commitment Means for Clients

A fiduciary commitment should be more than merely something written in a disclosure document. Clients should experience it in every interaction.

  • Advice Shaped by Your Goals

We start by understanding your financial life, your priorities, and what you're trying to accomplish. Recommendations should be tailored to your specific circumstances, not built around a generic model or one-size-fits-all solution.

  • Transparency and Accountability

Clients deserve clear conversations about services, fees, and decision-making. We believe transparency strengthens relationships and helps clients make confident, informed choices.

  • Objective Guidance

Financial decisions often involve competing priorities and complex tradeoffs. Our role is to provide you with an objective viewpoint and guidance grounded in your long-term interests.

  • Ongoing Partnership

A fiduciary relationship does not end once a recommendation is made or executed. As life changes, strategies often need to evolve. We believe ongoing advice, honest communication, and planning are important parts of helping clients stay on track.

How We Put Our Fiduciary Commitment Into Practice

We Look Beyond Investments

Managing investments is important, but investment management alone rarely solves a client's most important financial challenges.

Focus can help clients coordinate the many aspects of their financial lives, including wealth management, tax strategies, retirement planning, estate planning guidance, business planning, and major life transitions. By looking at the bigger picture, we can help clients make more informed decisions and identify opportunities that may otherwise be overlooked.

We Build Long-Term Relationships

Financial planning is an adaptable roadmap, not a one-time event. It evolves alongside careers, families, businesses, markets, and personal goals.

Our advisors work to develop lasting relationships built on trust and a deep understanding of what matters so we can help steer the ship when changes happen.

We Combine Local Relationships with National Resources

Clients often want personalized attention without the sacrifice of expertise and large company capabilities.

We combine boutique-level attention with national-scale resources. With over 100 offices across the country, Focus offers the convenience of local service backed by the strength and stability of a national network.

The result is a relationship-driven experience supported by broad planning, investment, and wealth management capabilities. This allows clients to benefit from both personal guidance and extensive resources as their needs grow and evolve.

We Believe Fiduciary Responsibility Is the Starting Point

Being a fiduciary matters to us. Meaningful advice requires listening, planning, collaboration, and proactive guidance. Our goal is not simply to meet a standard. It is to help clients make confident financial decisions while knowing their interests remain at the center of the relationship.

Transparency is a cornerstone of the fiduciary relationship. Through Form ADV, registered investment advisers provide clear disclosures about their services, fees, investment processes, and potential conflicts of interest, helping clients make informed decisions about who they trust with their financial future.
