Frequently Asked Questions About Focus Partners

Choosing a wealth management firm is an important decision. Whether you're working with an advisor for the first time or considering a change, these answers can help you learn more about Focus Partners, also referred to as Focus, including our approach, services, and client experience.

Yes. Focus is a registered investment adviser and operates under the fiduciary standard, which requires us to act in our clients’ best interests. This includes duties of care and loyalty and a responsibility to provide advice based on each client’s goals, circumstances, and broader financial needs.

Yes. Wealth management services are offered through Focus Partners Wealth, LLC, an SEC-registered investment advisor. Registration with the SEC indicates that the firm is regulated under applicable federal securities laws, although registration itself does not imply a certain level of skill or training.

Focus is our primary public-facing brand name. Focus Partners is also used when additional context helps clarify our identity. Focus Partners Wealth, LLC is the legal name of the SEC-registered investment adviser through which wealth management services are offered.

Focus provides comprehensive wealth management that can include financial planning, investment management, retirement planning, tax-aware strategies, estate planning guidance, insurance planning, and other specialized services.

Your advisor helps bring these areas together in one coordinated strategy. Depending on your needs, your advisor may collaborate with Focus specialists or coordinate with your outside tax, legal, and other professional advisors.

Focus works with individuals and families whose financial lives may require coordination across investments, taxes, retirement, estate planning, business interests, and other priorities. Our clients include executives, business owners, retirees, pre-retirees, and high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth families.

Focus combines a personalized advisory relationship with the resources of a nationwide organization. Your advisor takes the time to understand your goals, values, and priorities, then draws on a broader network of professionals and specialized capabilities as your needs evolve.

With more than 100 offices nationwide, Focus offers local relationships supported by extensive wealth planning, investment, and specialized resources.

Focus’ investment philosophy begins with each client’s goals, financial plan, time horizon, and tolerance for risk. We emphasize thoughtful asset allocation, disciplined risk management, and a long-term perspective rather than reacting to short-term market movements. Because every client’s goals and circumstances are different, portfolios and investment strategies are tailored to the individual.

Focus advisors hold a range of professional credentials based on their experience and areas of specialization. These may include Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®), Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®), and other specialized designations.

Credentials vary by advisor and specialty. You can review Focus advisor profiles to learn more about their background, experience, and professional designations.

Focus traces its roots to predecessor investment advisor firms dating back to 1986. Focus Partners Wealth launched in January 2025 as a unified wealth management firm following a rebrand by its parent company, Focus Financial Partners, which was founded in 2004.

Focus serves clients through more than 100 offices across the United States. Our nationwide presence allows clients to build a relationship with a local advisory team while drawing on the resources and specialized capabilities of a national organization.

Your Focus advisor can collaborate with the accountants, attorneys, trust professionals, and other specialists involved in your financial life. This coordination can help align financial, tax, estate, and other strategies and reduce the risk of important decisions being made in isolation.

Focus does not replace a client’s attorney or accountant when legal or tax advice is required. Your advisor helps facilitate communication among the professionals supporting you.

Fees depend on the services provided, the complexity of your needs, and the structure of your advisory relationship. Your advisor will explain the applicable fees before you enter into an advisory agreement. Additional information about services and fees is available in Focus’ Form ADV.

Getting started begins with a complimentary introductory conversation about your goals, priorities, and financial circumstances. You can schedule a meeting directly through our Let's Chat page.

During the conversation, we will learn more about what matters to you, answer your questions, and discuss whether Focus may be a good fit for your needs. If you decide to move forward, your advisory team will explain the next steps.
