Joan
Joan has more than 25 years of experience in Aging Life Care, supporting older adults, individuals with disabilities, and their families. As Aging Life Care Director at Focus, she collaborates with advisory team members to help clients navigate complex care challenges, identify available resources, and evaluate considerations related to aging and care. Joan also provides educational programs and client consultations on topics including proactive aging planning, solo aging, housing options, caregiving, and long-term care considerations.
Prior to joining Focus, Joan founded Joan Garbow & Associates, LLC in 2007, a private Aging Life Care Management practice serving clients throughout Fairfield County, Connecticut. Over 16 years in private practice, she provided care management, advocacy, and care coordination services to hundreds of older adults and their families, supporting them as they navigated medical, personal, and caregiving considerations. Earlier in her career, Joan served as a hospital case manager and medical social worker in a variety of healthcare settings, including acute care, home health care, physical rehabilitation, and family services.
Joan is a past President of the Connecticut Geriatrics Society and a past Co-President of the Aging Life Care Association™ New England Chapter.
Outside of work, Joan enjoys traveling with her family, exploring natural landscapes, hiking, practicing yoga, and knitting.
